Intro: The DJ and a hyped-up auntie call everybody in, in Khmer, Spanish and English. Come on, everybody to the center, and turn the music up loud. Verse 1: Colored lights fill the tent and the night is hot. The aunties walk into the circle in their skirts, hands turning slowly like flowers opening, going round the flower table once, then twice. The uncles sit with their drinks pretending they don't want to dance, but under the table their feet are already moving. Pre-Chorus: Everyone holds their breath. Wait for it. The DJ switches the beat, someone yells how good it is, and the crowd shouts that it's coming. Chorus: Cumbia, the circle dance. One circle, two kinds of dance, as the tías and the Khmer aunties fight for the dance floor. Move your hips, shape your hands nicely, and dance together, from here and from there, for one more round. Verse 2: Grandma gets up from her chair and calls a tía over to dance. She teaches her to bend her fingers like an apsara, and the tía laughs, asking 'Like this? Like this?' with hands stiff as wood. Then the tía teaches Grandma back, one, two, three. Grandma is surprised she can still do it, and the uncles finally stand up and drop the act. Bridge: The tro fiddle and the accordion go head to head while the crowd chants left, right, hands up, hands down. The circle keeps growing, bigger and bigger, and nobody is allowed to sit. Outro: The music thins out to just the accordion and the tro. It's three in the morning, the aunties are still dancing, and the tías aren't ready to go home yet. One more round, one more turn.
